OWWA: Report erring personnel

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The public should formally report erring Overseas Workers Welfare Administration personnel directly to OWWA and not just post on social media, OWWA chief Arnel Ignacio said in an advisory yesterday.

“If there are issues involving our personnel’s work ethics, the public may officially report these to us, for us to effect the appropriate action,” he said.

Ignacio issued the advisory as he observed that social media is being used as a platform by the public to convey messages as well as report complaints against OWWA personnel here and abroad.

“While we appreciate the vigilance of the public in reporting alleged misdemeanor of some OWWA personnel, prudence dictates the need to adhere to the principle of due process to ensure that the subject of complaints is accorded fair and just treatment under existing civil service laws and regulations,” he said.

The OWWA chief said the complaint must be addressed to him in writing and under oath.  The complaint may be sent online through the administrator’s and the OWWA’s webpage.

Ignacio said the report must also contain the full name and address of the complainant as well as the name and assignment of the concerned OWWA personnel.

The complaint should include a narration of the incident demonstrating the alleged acts of omission committed by the personnel. Documentary evidence and affidavits of witnesses may also be submitted.
