MANILA, Philippines — A jail guard and an inmate at the Laguna Provincial Jail in Sta. Cruz town were killed in a shooting yesterday.
Prison Guard 1 Jonathan Buenviaje was on duty in one of the dormitories in the jail facility when inmate Romnick Estadilla, 32, approached, took the service firearm of the jail guard and shot him several times.
The other jail guards retaliated and shot Estadilla.
Buenviaje and Estadilla were pronounced dead on arrival at the Laguna Provincial Hospital.
Probers have yet to determine Estadilla’s motive for the attack.
